Love, Companionship And Lonliness

My patent line before I met Aaman was - If I want a companion I will get a dog. . I've still used the line once or twice jokingly with my single friends. But it can get lonely if you don't have someone to share you worries with, to have a lap to lay your head down on and be vulnerable.

My younger sister is single and mom a widow. I'm hopeful that my sister will find someone and lead a fulfilled life but its my mother I am worried about. She is beautiful person, soft spoken , well articulated, dignified, wise and with a iron will but alone.

While watching Spider-Man 3 I found myself thinking of my mom when Peter Parker's Aunt talks about her husband and hands over her engagement ring to Peter to give to Mary Jane. Aunt May was still in love with her dead husband and so remains my mom in love with a man who died eight years ago.

I'd like my mom to find some happiness. A companion to grow old with. Being with us , enjoying her grand kids is fine but we all go back to our own lives and she is left alone in her big three storied house.

Can our parents generation find love in their setting years? My mom is only fifty eight years old. Still young enough to remarry but she feels that remarriage is not possible for a woman of her generation. She continues to live in a world created by my dad, a world that was full of people, laughter and now apart from the frequent visits from her children and grandchildren she is alone.

Don't get me wrong she is working woman, financially well off, has her set of friends but no one to come home to except for my dog who is also growing old.

It can't be easy for her to be alone especially when she had known happiness with a wonderful man like my dad but I still harbor a tinsy hope that she would have someone by her side to share her days and nights with.
